So, we’re finding ourselves drawing near to the end of Spring again, and are these seasons getting shorter and shorter, or is it just me getting old? Spring brought some fabulous new colours with it. Gone are the heavy smokey eyes, dark red lips and pristine hair. Spring is about simplicity with a hint of sophistication. I think the best way to look like you’ve ‘tried’ is to just add a smidge of colour to the lips. It’s easy and it looks fun. Here are four of my favourites this season:
If you’re wanting to stay simple without looking like you’ve gone over the top then peachy pink colours are the way to go. The fact that this lip colour still has a hint of pink still gives it that fun edge. My tip with peachy pink colours is that if you are pale, like myself, then avoid matte lipssticks as these can completely wash out your complection. Opt for something thats slightly moisturising so that it gives a sheen. My pick is Maybelline’s Baby Lips Lip Balm in Peach Kiss.
We’re getting a bit braver now. This has got to be my favourite on trend lip colour this season. It works in most situations and can take you from a day at work to a night on the town. Try it out on dress down fridays and get in the mood for the weekend early on with this party piece. Pair it with subtle eyes to give the best effect. You’ve heard the saying ‘either legs or cleavage’ well the same goes for your face. Choose either your eyes or lips to make up. You’ll be happier choosing your lips in the spring time as the weather starts to get warmer, lipstick won’t run down your face like eyeliner would. My pick is The Body Shop’s Colourglide Lip Colour in Neon Pink.
I love this colour and really wish that I had the skin tone to pull it off, but sadly, I do not. A lot of influential bloggers have been rocking this look lately, and I’m telling you now… this look is not for the cautious. I would probably recommend wearing this colour if you have warmer toned skin and you would rock it so much more if you wore it as a matte lipstick. There’s no hiding this colour, it has to go Bang, and matte lipsticks are perfect for that full on colour. My pick is Maybelline’s Color Sensational Vivids in Electric Orange.
Red never goes out of fashion. No matter what year, season, event, a red lip will never look out of place. Red lips work well on pale skin as they stand out more. Think Snow White. So make your lips stand out and opt for a stain instead of lipsticks and gloss. They last a while and if you’re taking yourself from the office to drinks after work it’s more likely to stay on. You also avoid that icky lipstick mark you leave on glasses. (Pet Peeve of mine). My pick is The Body Shop’s Lip and Cheek Stain in Rose Pink (it’s red not pink).
